Blacklist Brewing Imperial Hefe

I’ve been a big fan of Blacklist Brewing (Duluth, MN) since a sampling at a beer festival a year or two ago, and so I was thrilled to find their name on the shelf at the local liquor store recently. After scooping up the Blacklist Imperial Hefe with grapefruit zest, I waited (not so patiently) for the work day to be over so we could do a little office beer tasting.

Once we’d taken in the eye-catching bottle artwork and uncorked this puppy (a struggle for us, as apparently all our beer drinking has left us without an office wine opener), the Imperial Hefeweizen poured a lovely golden brown and had a strong banana bread aroma. This brew started off a bit tart, quickly transitioned to a complex yeasty flavor, and finished off with just a hint of the grapefruit promised in its name.

The Imperial Hefe lived up to the high expectations I’d created for Blacklist, and this hoppy lawyer is looking forward to seeing what the Lake Superior brewery has in store to get us through the winter.
